Bedford County author, teacher, horse wrangler David Goode brings his unique life experiences and love of history to his writings. Born and raised in central Virginia, David comes from a family of educators in Bedford, and he has literally taken his teaching credentials on the road. Beginning in 1974, David taught history to local 6th and 7th graders. He went on to teach English at a private school in Mexico City, and English as a second language in China. His travels as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Army led to service in Vietnam and Germany. Later his love of the West led to wanderings in Wyoming, Arizona, and Idaho where he worked on dude ranches. In his spare time over the course of three years, he researched, developed, designed and produced his Wild West board game "Gunfighters and Trailblazers" which was released in 1996. Over the years, David Goode has also been a bartender and has had 'up close and close encounters' with people from all walks of life. Many a story has been inspired from his experiences spanning from "The Blacksmith Shop" in Phoenix, Arizona (a nightclub owned by a lawyer for the Phoenix mob and co-owned by a gay psychic!) to stints at the Hotel Roanoke and occasionally now as bartender at the Peaks of Otter. He notes the interesting and sometimes humorous synchronicity between the antics and human conditions he observes as a bartender and the case studies he presents to his students at Central Virginia Community College, where he is Adjunct Professor of Psychology.
His newly released book, A fight for Love and Glory, combines David's love for history (this time flashbacks to WWII Europe and beyond), combined with the love story that might have been for the ill-fated lovers Rick and Ilsa of Casablanca fame. His book was first conceived as a short story for his creative writing class at Hollins University in Roanoke, VA. His writing professor suggested that it would be well suited for a full novel, and so that began Goode's journey into a two year writing effort.
