About the Artist
Mark Shields is a native of Williamsburg, Virginia, and now lives and works in Virginia Beach, Virginia. He maintained a studio in Asheville, N.C. during the 90's where his reputation grew nationally. His classical training involves the use of simple hand tools and hand technology, and translates a clarity of design that is easy for the eye to read and delightful to hold in one's hand. Mark's vision is that we all cherish the beauty of the planet and honor the plants, animals and human culture with loving attention.
A graduate of the Colonial Williamsburg Craft Program, Mark learned under the tutelage of William deMatteo, one of America's leading silversmiths of the 20th century.
