More than awards or riches, the most compelling moments for Jane McCauley are the ones where she witnesses a person's spiritual transformation while they are viewing one of her paintings. Truly a satisfying experience!
Jane McCauley was born in Baltimore, Maryland. But she has called the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia home since 1968. She and her husband, Rev. G. O. "Sonny" Pendergraft, live in a rustic cabin at the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The cabin was built in 1950 by Sonny's parents, Gradon and Maria Pendergraft, as a "summer cabin", hence the name, "Gra-Mar". Jane and Sonny share their home with several cats and two dogs. Their property joins the George Washington National Forest, and they get visiting "critters" from time to time in their yard. It is a wonderful, peaceful place for Jane to create her artwork.
Jane is mainly self-taught. She can work in many different media. However, she specializes in realistic-style, highly detailed, oil paintings on canvas and antique roof slate (shingles). Her subjects are mainly rural scenes, wildlife, animals in general, and seascapes along the Atlantic coast. She has won various awards, including the "Grumbacher Award for Excellence in Oils", with "gold" medallion. Jane's art is found in many private and corporate collections in the USA and Europe. Jane, with help from Sonny, attends and exhibits at many outdoor and a few indoor festivals each year. Jane has also illustrated four published children's books: two in England, and two in the United States. She was also the guest artist in residence at Dolly Parton's 'Dollywood' a few seasons back. Jane accepts a limited number of commissions each year ranging from pet portraiture to church murals.
She always puts something living in all her art, because she believes it gives "life" to the scene. A Bible Scripture is also written in oils on each slate painting, which describes the picture. On the oils on canvas a Scripture title is included next to Jane's signature, and when looked up in the Bible, it will describe the scene. Jane believes that all her talent and inspiration come from the Lord. She and Sonny give God all the credit and glory. They use Jane's art to "witness" for our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, the Messiah. Jane says this following Scripture describes what she does, and why she paints for the Lord.

ARTIST'S NOTE: Each of these slates is unique. Slate sizes and shapes vary due to age of actual slate (100 to 200 years, appx.), and where it was located on each building roof. No two paintings are totally alike, as I incorporate the unique character of each slate into the painting. Therefore, I cannot guarantee the actual painting depicted will be available. However, a very similar painting will be created especially for you, with the same Bible Scripture. If this is the case, it takes time to create a unique work of fine art. It may be several weeks to complete it. I will be glad to e-mail you the progress with photos.

perform is not only supplying the needs of God's people but is also
overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God. Because of the
service by which you have proved yourselves, men will praise God for
the obedience that accompanies your confession of the gospel of
Christ, and for your generosity in sharing with them and with
everyone else. And in their prayers for your their hearts will go

Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!"
