Don Fuss - Woodturner

Don has always had an interest in creative design and art. He spent two years in digital graphic art in fields ranging from 3D animation to digital imaging. After tiring of creating objects inside of a computer program, he began crafting furniture out a a desire to create art that was tangible. Soon finding furniture to be too limiting design-wise, he took an interest in woodturning for its freeform nature and has been turning since 2004. He belongs to two woodworking guilds - the Central Virginia Woodworkers Guild and the Smith Mountain Lake Woodturners.

Don enjoys woodworking all types of wood, ranging from dense, tropical exotics such as East Indian Rosewood and Cocobolo to native North American trees such as Maple, Cherry, and Walnut. He creates everything from functional, food-safe bowls, platters, ink pens, and oil lamps to freeform pieces with voids and bark inclusions meant for display.
